There are several reasons as to why waistbeads are worn. It mainly depends on the wearers purpose of putting them on their body, but traditionally....Waistbeads are an African accessory that consist of small beads on a string or wire worn around the waist or hips.  In many West African Countries waist beads are a symbol of femininity, fertility, sensuality, and spiritual well-being. Since becoming popular in the US, they are becoming a trendy day to day accessory.
Waistbeads are made to be worn for years at a time, unless you personally decide to change them more frequently. When adorning your waist with your Waistbeads,  make sure they are not too tight, so that they do not break when you bend, sit, work-out,  or after you eating. If using to gauge weight loss or gain, your beads will rise when weight is gained, and drop closer to the hips when weight is lost.
